Day 11 - Umbilical Line No More!
1/10/21 - Sunday FIO2 was between 35-45% overnight. Red blood count is good. Up from 35% to 45% after the blood transfusion. Should hold for the next week or so. He might need a transfusion for the next few weeks each week to help with growth. Feedings are going well. Bowel movements look good. Should have the umbilical line taken out tonight and won’t need TPN or PICC line as of this moment and will be only on milk. 8 ML right now at 26 calories per 30 ML of feeding. Graduation day! No more umbilical line!! Today’s blood gas level was 44 CO2 content, compared to 71 the other day. So, he’s made great improvements. A great range would be 50-60. Small adjustments to the oscillator today will help get James to where he will need to be today. Tomorrow will get another ultrasound of his heart to look for PDA to see if there’s any blood flow restrictions or if it’s flowing too fast that can create wet lungs.
