Day 591 - James Rolling Around Upside Down 🀸🏻‍♂️

Image
Saturday, August 13th, 2022 Dad recorded James playing with the balls in his crib. As you can see James is becoming more and more like a toddler. He is rolling around, going upside down, and is moving fast. James has been getting himself wrapped up in his cords too. Yes, James is more stable but he is also now more likely to pull his trach out or disconnect himself from the ventilator. So as he gets older the more eyes we need on him all the time! Today Mom got out of the house and ran some errands but was back in time for trach care. P.S. You can email James your love and support as often as you’d like. Mom and Dad read these email to James as they come in. We all love them! JamesWestonAbramowitz@gmail.com

Day 590 - Peek-a-boo & Circuit Change [Video]

Image
Friday, August 12th, 2022 James started out the morning opening a box of baby wipes.  Not taking them out one by one, instead he found a more efficient way of getting them all out at once. He enjoyed some looney tunes while in his chair.  In the afternoon, Mom performed a full circuit change and recorded for educational purposes. We were not trained how to setup a circuit and had to figure it out ourselves when we got home. Where I think the ball was dropped was that the hospital thought the respiratory therapist from the DME would train us and they didn't. Hopefully the video can help someone! ❤️ P.S. Day 589 - James Jammin' Out to Lullabies 🎢

Image
Thursday, August 11th, 2022 πŸ’‰ We found out that James' blood work came back in normal range. Mom saw the results on the portal on Monday but it took an additional 4 days for the office to get the results and call us with direction. Last week he was checked for Calcium Ionized level. The normal reference range is between 1.10 mmol/L - 1.30 mmol/L. James' results came back at 1.3 which is at the high end but still within range. We will need to get another one done in a few months to make sure he doesn't get any kidney stones.  Uncle Dr. David stopped by again since he was in the area and this time James was awake! He really is very social and lights up with smiles whenever someone is talking to him. 😁 In the evening, Dad played guitar and James joined with his shaker. It probably would have made sense to get a video so you could actually hear it. James danced to his James Weston Lullaby which is still his favorite song. Twinkle twinkle comes in at a close second. ✨ Prince J...

Day 588 - Visitors Stop By & Yummy Apples 🍏🍎

Image
Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 It's been a whole year since James had his GJ placed. Pretty crazy how fast time flies! Today Uncle Dr. David stopped by to see James, then James had physical therapy, and a visit from a new trach mom. Lots of new faces for James!  We had about 3 outfits changes today due to the GJ leaking. We changed into a teal, then blue, and then white kimono top, hand-dyed by Aunt Robin. πŸ‘• The white shirt we use as his eating shirt because we haven't purchased a bib yet. πŸ˜† Since he's only been getting little tastes he really doesn't make that much of a mess.  James helped Mom get dinner ready and then had apples, which he really enjoyed this time 🍎🍏. P.S. You can email James your love and support as often as you’d like. Mom and Dad read these email to James as they come in. We all love them! JamesWestonAbramowitz@gmail.com

Day 587 - ENT AppointmentπŸ‘‚πŸ‘ƒ πŸ—£️

Image
Tuesday, August 9th, 2022 We had an early morning ENT appointment. We hadn't seen them since January. The goal of this 6 month check-up appointment was to see where we are at in getting off the ventilator and plan for decannulation. Needless to say but she was also disappointed that we didn't start the trials off the vent yesterday. She explained that once James is off the vent completely it will be about 9 to 12 months after that until he gets his trach out. She did a bronchoscopy to check his airway and look at the granuloma in his stoma. She was able to cauterize that with silver nitrate. James was not a fan. (It stains your skin brown and takes forever to come off.) He tried sticking his fingers into his stoma blocking the doctor from applying the compound so Mom and Dad had to hold his hands down. The doctor let us know that the secretions she saw looked thin and white. However at home we typically see thick and yellow. She was concerned about James doing another round of ...

Day 586 - Pulmonology Appointment 🫁

Image
Monday, August 8th, 2022 We were expecting to go into this pulmonology appointment with James getting trials off the vent. In our last appointment a month ago with the doctor he said that all of James' vent settings were low enough to start trials. However this appointment we didn't get to see our doctor, since he was scheduled for rounds at the hospital. We saw the nurse practitioner instead. She was under the impression that James still needed to lower his ventilator settings before having trials off the vent. We were crushed as we had been waiting for this for the last month. These are the things we discussed: Lowered Pressure Support from 18 to 15 and Respiratory Rate from 25 to 20. We asked for another prescription to an antibiotic because we believe his trach infection never cleared with the last round. We were prescribed Cipro this time. His secretions were still thick and yellow. We did an end tidal C02 test which looked great. We talked about starting his monthly synag...
