Day 3: Not ready to leave yet

 1/2/20 - Saturday

Lindsay is still pumping like a champion. Every 3 hours or so. Getting her body accustomed to creating milk is a new experience for both of us. We set it up so she can get a full 4 hours of sleep last night by pumping before 11p and then again 3am.  She’s been incredible with her calmness and curiosity. Always in the know and looking to what’s next.

The doctor came in to let us know that Lindsay meets the criteria to get discharged today, which is a surprise due to being only 18 hours since the operation. We aren’t ready yet, so we opted to stay an extra day to help with transitioning physically and emotionally. There’s some uncertainty around what will happen next. How do we pump and bring the milk to NICU? How long do we stay with James? Do we both spend the night? Do we only come during daytime hours? Do I go back and forth so Lindsay can rest at home? What is the best direction? Is there a mix of everything? - time will tell and we will navigate through these decisions together.

Giving Cerfactin to help with lung development.

900 puffs per minute to keep lungs open. Send oxygen gently through oscillator

200 heart rate is a concern. James has been around 130

Under a light to help bilirubin in blood

Oxygen level between 85-95%. He’s at 92-94. This will allow the eyes to develop slowly to prevent ROP.

Orange tube to give nutrition directly to stomach

Small amount of morphine before touching and during diaper change.

No bowel movement yet.

Stress levels are biggest concerns to keep low.

Increases carbon dioxide called for a tube adjustment to help release.

We got to touch his little baby hands and feet today!  So soft.

Night time visit has carbon dioxide levels higher than desired.

Late night visit had urine output decreasing from 10 ML to 6 ML to 2 ML.  Blood test - BMP - to check kidney functions.
