Day 32 - Getting His Groove Back

Sunday, January 31, 2021

Morning: James had a pretty great night says thr doctor. "The best he's had since I took him over on Thursday."  We like that this doctor has taking all the necessary precautions that James needed.  And as it turns out, they were all just in case there was something serious that James was facing (due to his symptoms and signs he was showing).

Specifically, the adding of the two antibiotics, taking James off feeds, adding the IV, the blood culture, urine culture, and the increased blood gas tests were all to monitor and ensure that James did not have any serious infections. Granted, all of these are fairly invasive, including poking James with needles in his arms, legs, and feet, along with adding a catheter, they were necessary in order for us to ensure there is not any infections.

We are grateful that there was not one that was found and the symptoms (lethargy, higher oxygen requirements, higher CO2, slightly higher temperature) are unknown and could simply be due to just being tired and needing some more blood.  So, for now, James is back on his feed with 26 Calories and 18 ML, his blood gas is good, his FIO2 is at 47%, Amplitude at 25, pressure at 19, weight is 940g, platelets are good, red blood cell is good and will be monitored closely to see if another blood transfusion will be needed.

For today, James will rest up and recover from the pokes and adjustments and continue on his journey of growth and lung development.

On a side note, James is LOVING his book collection that has been growing.  He is a fan of Dr Suess and having dad read to him daily.

Mom took his temperature and changed his diaper during his "hands on" time while he was getting his feeding. We both did Reiki on him put him into a deep sleep.

Video: You can hear James cooing. Sounds are squeezing through a small space around the tube in his throat. This also means that they may need to increase the size of the tube. But it's adorable.

Evening: Weighing in at 1 kilogram (2.205 pounds)
