Day 37 - Dad’s First Diaper Change

Afternoon:  James is having a really good day. Even though his pressure increased, his oxygen level went down dramatically!  He is responding REALLY well to the JET oscillator. His FIO2 went from 70s to 50s down to 30s over the course of the past day and a half. We are very pleased with this update. 

James is up to 23 ML of feed and is tolerating it well still. He’s also gained some more weight and is at 1105g or 2 lbs 7 ounces. When he was born, he weighed 1 lb 4 ounces, so he’s approximately double his weight in his first 5 weeks, which is another great update. 

His blood is still good, so no transfusion needed yet. He could use a bowel movement since it’s been approx 12 hours without one. 

A few other updates:  Dad did his first ever diaper changer today. As in ... FIRST EVER DIAPER CHANGE.  Not first on James ... First EVER.  It was not captured on video or photo due to this being a moment that was private to our family (and the nurse helping) and to avoid any public embarrassment that could have taken place for dad 😆 (he actually did well and James gave dad an easy time.) 

James also got to do his first FaceTime last night with Aunt Debra and Uncle Frank in NJ. We are allowed to do these every so often when the nurse and staff won’t be in the room.  Maybe you’ll be one of our next FaceTime convos ... 🤔 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️ 

There’s a chance we will be moving rooms in the next few days so they can clean and sanitize this one. 

James will be getting an eye exam (ROP) on Tuesday and I’m sure he’s not looking forward to that. 

James is also excited about experiencing his first ever Super Bowl that can be seen from our hospital!  We drive by the stadium everyday and can hear “The Weeknd” doing his rehearsal each night. We can see the Bucs players doing their practice and drills from the parking lot too.  Even though this family are Miami Dolphin fans, we also root for the home team. 🐬 #GoBucs
