Day 125 - Another recovery, poor baby!

Today's events and updates:

His primary care nurse was back. Thank goodness! She was also training an intern. But this intern is a great student and we would be glad to have her as a nurse someday. Night and day from last night's intern. Literally.

James is receiving his 3rd & Final 4 Month Vaccine which is prevnar.

They tried several times to get a catheter in for another urine culture but failed. They are trying to see if the urinary tract infection is getting better or not. If it is getting better, his last day with the IV and getting antibiotics will be May 8th.

Custom trach not coming until Thursday, putting off Trach change until then. At that point, ENT will handle.

Weighed in at 4165 grams, lost more weight from 4215 grams the night before. Just need to get to 5,000 grams to trial a home vent.

Yesterday's results from wrist Xray checking for rickets: No significant change from 3/1/2021.

3:30pm - Mom and Dad did their first ever trach tie change together without a Respiratory Therapist. Successful team work. 

After the trach care Dad stepped in to relieve Mom so she could go home and get a few hours of sleep.

5:30p - Brady and Desat

7:15p - Brady and Desat

9:30p - Brady and Desat

10:00pm - The director came by to let us know he will be by tomorrow to speak with Mom about last night. 

10:30pm - Mom is back to see what is in store for tonight. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

12:30am - BPD episode

2:30am - BPD episode. Vented with syringe.

3:30am - BPD episode

4:00am - Attempted another urine catheter. Failed.

4:30am - Mom did trach care. Had to tighten trach ties.

5:00am - BPD episode. Asked RT to increase the PEEP.

5:20am - BPD episode


The photos below were taken at 5am right after the fiasco last night. He is wondering we're his food is. He hasn't been fed for 8 hours at this point.

First Full Day of Pre-K 🎒 🟰 Off of Oxygen!

Yesterday was James's first full day of Pre-K! For the past 2 months, James has only been able to do half days because of nap time; he required oxygen while sleeping. The great news is that James is now officially off oxygen completely! Also, we have worked with our GI team and the school nurses for them to be able to administer G-tube feeds at school, so he can stay a full day! It's so important to take the time to celebrate the wins because with a medically complex kid, there is always something to be working on! 👍🏻 From ventilator weaning to stopping the ventilator completely, to scheduling decannulation, to getting the trach stoma closed, to graduating from a GJ to a G-tube, to getting off of oxygen... It feels never-ending! That is just the medical side of it. There are also those normal things like walking, talking, eating... Ella is 3 months old!

Today Ella Jade is 3 months old! These are photos of her first 3 months. She is the sweetest little thing and about 12lbs! 🩷 Her little coos and smiles bring us to tears, absolutely adorable! 🥹 Everyone who meets her says, "She's like a doll". Sometimes it feels like this isn't real. Ella is always looking around the room, especially at whatever James is doing, just taking it all in. She is so strong, trying to stand, and holding up her head on her own. James continues to be such a sweet and gentle big brother. He is so excited about teaching her things, mainly about the difference between an oboe and a clarinet, or a mandolin and a banjo, but he's also really into circles and pentagons. 😂 Ya know normal toddler things. Time is going by too fast! These first three months have been a little crazy with the newborn stage, exclusively breastfeeding around the clock, and cluster feedings in the middle of the night.
