Day 129 - Nurse Snuggles & Visitation Policy Changed
Saturday, May 8th, 2021
James had a pretty good night. He had a good stretch of sleep from 2:00 am to 6:00 am. Yes Mom got 4 hours of sleep! He had his typical event at 7:00 am welcoming in shift change bradying and desating. He then was able to take two short naps in the morning which was super helpful for Mom as well.
This morning James did tummy time immediately when the shift changed. Then he spent time in his swing. Sleeping through both of these activities.
His primary nurse held him for a good while keeping him alert and chatting with him about all the different types of foods that he'll eat one day. 😂 James has been doing a new thing this week where he turns his head back and forth looking side to side and all around. He is working on his head control. It is adorable! However Mom has not been able to take any pictures or video of him doing this because either an RN or RT is holding him up at the time and they cannot be photographed. Maybe sometime this week Mom will be able to do a selfie video of him doing this!
We found out later in the week that the visitation policy changed! This is so exciting. For those of you not aware, there has been a very strict visitation policy because of covid. No one but Mom and Dad has met James. James will be 4½ months old meeting his first extended family members.
Changes:
- New antibiotic was started today for the second UTI. This will be given in his G-tube once a day for 7 days. However they are leaving the IV in his foot in, just in case.
- Eucerin was prescribed for his newborn rash. But then the order was deleted so we need to discuss this with the doctor tomorrow.
Mom bought James an automatic baby patter. It's a fish 🐟 typically used as a cat toy, but someone started marketing these for toddlers to play with. This was recommended by one of the night nurses.
Dad is taking over for the Saturday evening shift, while Mom heads to urgent care.
Mom ended up getting prescribed a third round of antibiotics for a UTI. They confirmed that she may be resistant to the previous antibiotics and tried her on a third kind. The culture will take 4 days for results. Just like for James' culture it will tell us exactly which antibiotic to use based on sensitivity tests.
P.S. You can email James your love and support as often as you’d like. Mom and Dad read these email to James as they come in. We all love them! JamesWestonAbramowitz@gmail.com
That’s pretty “fishy!”
