Day 160 - 3 Fractured Ribs!

Tuesday, June 8th, 2021

Changes/Updates:

  • James is getting a full x-ray since yesterday's showed us some new findings. We want to make sure we weren't missing anything else.
CLINICAL INDICATION: Recent screening for rickets at left wrist suggesting presence of healing fracture distal radius, now for a more inconclusive survey to evaluate for the possibility of other fractures.
FINDINGS: There is callus associated with healing posterior right rib fractures, seventh, eighth, and ninth. There is a tiny bony projection from the medial proximal right tibia which is nonspecific, not necessarily of fracture. There is some mature formed periosteal reaction involving the femoral shafts likely the residua of a prior periostitis and possibly a normal physiological phenomenon. Periosteal reactions which had been present at the humeri on the prior study are now less conspicuous.
IMPRESSION: *IN ADDITION TO THE HEALING/HEALED FRACTURE OF THE DISTAL LEFT RADIAL METAPHYSIS, THERE IS CALLUS IDENTIFIED IN THE POSTERIOR RIGHT
SEVENTH, EIGHTH, AND NINTH RIBS ALSO CHARACTERISTIC OF HEALING/HEALED FRACTURES.

So James had 3 fractured ribs and a wrist that are now healing! After about 10 days to 2 weeks, there is early bone healing (called callus) that gently holds the bone ends in place.

New Day shift nurse today. We had her once a few months ago while James was intubated.

James has been having better nights where he has longer stretches of sleep and recovers faster from his BPD events.

Morning cuddles
Putting his hands in his mouth is a very good developmental step.

P.S. You can email James yur love and support as often as you’d like. Mom and Dad read these emails to James as they come in. We all love them! JamesWestonAbramowitz@gmail.com
