9:30am Call from Nurse:
He said that overnight in the early morning James had been desating into the '80s, was calm, although his work of breathing was worse with strong retractions. He said that so far today he is still desating so they bumped him up to 40 FiO2 from 35 and he is now better. They ended up doing a nasal swab check and it came back negative for RSV, covid, and a few other viral infections. Mom let him know that sometimes when he's sleeping he drifts a little bit. Obviously going to a 40 FiO2 is not good for him going home. They might try the LTV later today if he continues to look okay.
Mom ended up getting an IV drip to help speed up recovery. It was a 45 minute saline based electrolyte solution called an Immunity Booster which included B12 + Vitamin D + Taurine + Trace Elements + Glutathione + Vitamin C (x2).

2:30pm Dad went to the Hospital - text update below 🏥
"James had been on LTV since 11:30am. Doing good. No poop yet. Doing trach change soon. 98.9 temperature. Went down a little. Vented a few times. Overall, solid day."
Dad did the trach change with an RT and it went smooth. He learned a new tip with the split gauze he may use in the future.
7:30pm Dad left the hospital after it taking him a while to console James because he was pretty agitated.
Later in the evening, Dad informed Mom that one of the Doctors had stopped by and mentioned that if James can stay on the LTV and do well we could be going home next week! This is exciting but also very frustrating. It feels like a giant rollercoaster because we are told something different every week by different people. 😱 We realize that this is probably a unlikely scenario since we have not yet completed the discharge checklist, we don't have any of our medical supplies yet, and there is a lot on the insurance side that still needs to be taken care of. But since you never know... Mom figured we may need to purchase a stroller now, so we have any time for our emergency training class! Thank goodness for Amazon! 📦 We ended up going with a City Select since that will be able to hold an oxygen tank, the LTV ventilator, a pulse ox machine, a suction machine, a trach emergency bag, and a diaper bag. It's a double stroller but you only use the one seat and the extra space is helpful. At least that's what the majority of the Trach moms with babies on LTV ventilators recommend! 🤞
Mom deep dived into car seat research today. James hasn't been able to even use his infant car seat yet and it only goes up to 35 lb. With how fast he gains weight we don't know how much use he will get out of the infant car seat before we're needing to upgrade him!

P.S. You can email James your love and support as often as you’d like. Mom and Dad read these emails to James as they come in. We all love them! JamesWestonAbramowitz@gmail.com
