Day 221 - Daddy Day & Possible New Surgery

Sunday, August 8th, 2021

James decided to give Dad a fairly easy start to Sunday. He woke up at 12:30a, not agitated, just awake. After a small chit chat and a vent, he went back to bed. Only needed 2 vents during the night.

“Good morning Dad” with an eventful start to the morning. Threw up around 6:30am. Then two more spit ups during the next 30 minutes. Total of 4 spit ups and 3 outfits. 😞

And then … the poop 💩 began!   Three poops between bedtime and lunch time. One even went up his back causing another outfit change. 4th outfit of the day!

Doctor came by to discuss an explanation of G/J tube and believes that's a good direction for James. He drew how it works on the door window with a dry erase marker. It was very well explained to Dad.  Essentially, the J tube goes into the intestines and the G tube stays in the stomach. The G port will allow us to vent the gas and the J port allows us to feed James.

Even though James is having poops, we continued the Milk of Mag to keep that shit up … literally 😂.

Overall, James is doing well.  After vent and diaper, we put him on his side and he went to sleep again.

LTV started at 10:25pm last night and he's still on it. Doing great!  They decided to extend to 24 continuous hours to see how James tolerates it.  He is approaching 14 hours right now, which is his longest get.

Since James woke up, we decided to begin playing with some toys. James really loves the few teethers that Mom got him, the Baby Rattle from Aunt Robin. He's working his way up to his advanced toys from our NICU crew.

Dad has been reading James “Peter Pan” (the original, not Disney). This was an awesome birthday gift from Mom. We just finished chapter 10 today. James loves Dad’s attempt at British accents.

Ultrasound came in to see James’s pyloris. Unfortunately, since James was just fed, they couldn’t see anything. They tried giving him a little pedia-lite, but that didn’t help.  Pyloris is the valve between the stomach and small intestine. The tech cannot see it clearly on his full belly, but she took photos and is having the doctor see if they are good enough. The only time Dad saw an ultrasound was for pregnancy tests. The good news that Dad told James was that he’s not pregnant!  😂

Dad did a photo shoot with James. They did a bath. He held James. Several outfit changes. The best part was James questioning who Dad was withhout his facial hair.

Just hit 18 hours on LTV. Still going strong.

GI doctor came by.  They will do the bedside variant scan/X-ray tomorrow to see if it's pyloris stenosis.  If it is, it's a simple surgery to cut the muscle and create a passage way.  If it's not, she suggests the GJ tube.

James is collecting the first batch of song recordings from loved ones!  This project is coming along nicely.  We cannot wait to show everyone when it’s complete. ❤️🥰🎼🎵🎶🎙️🎸
