Day 225 - GI Procedure Part 2
Thursday, August 12th, 2021
7:30am James was headed down to Radiology with Dad. For anesthesia he got gas through his trach and meds via IV.
8:00am Dad was not actually allowed in the room. James went in for the procedure.
9:30am Procedure was a success! James now has a GJ.
James woke up and we noticed that his G-tube was filled with gastric juices from his stomach. It was shooting all the way up into the farrell bag. Really seemed like too much. Feeds were restarted at 32ml/hour, continuous for 24 hours all fortified breastmilk.

At the site we noticed his GJ was leaking around the stoma. It was practically pouring out onto the bed. Mom changed about six split gauzes before the nurse could get the doctor. They contacted GI for suggestions on what to do. GI suggested that we vent the G into a preemie diaper.

Good thing we have preemie diapers at home. |

Mom ended up putting a 4x4 around the button since the 2x2s were getting drenched. |

During night shift rounds Mom was informed that this doctor would be taking over starting Monday. And to make a long story short he basically hinted at the fact that he thinks we would be going home in 2 weeks. 😲 However, we still need the other doctors to be in agreement and especially the pulmonologist. But he said he will be pushing for this while he is on service next week. So that led our nurse to go over with Mom all of the things regarding discharge. There are a ton... besides ordering all of our medical supplies, equipment and ventilator. Mom and Dad still has to get trained on the home ventilator and that still needs to get to the hospital. We also need to go through the CPR course, there are 25 training videos we have to watch on our TV in the room, and there is something called a "Room In" where both Mom and Dad need to stay overnight and handle everything as if they were at home. No nurses or doctors do anything. Now Mom pretty much does this already however when it's time for a feeding or medication they will need to go to the nurses station and request the correct amount of feed or med. These will already be drawn up and prepared whereas at home Mom will be responsible for doing this as well. They don't care if you sleep during the room in however they want you to be waking up to the alarms and making sure he's getting his feed and meds on time. Oh yeah and they bring in a second recliner for us. Don't know where that is going. 😂 Currently James has something due every hour so we may not have the possibility of sleep. But overall it's exciting that we're talking about discharge.
P.P.S. Thank you so much for the lullaby submissions so far! It's so exciting to be part of something so special!
