Day 258 - Terrifying Stroller Flip in Parking Lot

*This post is late due to no sleep for several days. 😩

James had a horrible night. He did not sleep at except for when Mom held him for about 45 minutes until she needed to out more milk in his feed. As soon as he was put back in his crib he was awake and very upset. Mom called for Dad to come down because at one point he did have purple coloring. Later in the night after hearing the alarms for so long Dad came down again. You sleep pretty lightly when you have high anxiety. Both of us were up trying to figure out what was wrong. We figured that he is either having "new" BPD episodes again (that look different) or he is withdrawing.

We had our first pediatrician appointment in the afternoon. It took us 40 minutes just to get out of the house. Look at the hot mess express! 😂

The Incident
We decided to do valet because, did you look at the amount of stuff we have? Going into the appointment in front of the building, we had to unload the car into the stroller. Everything was in the stroller except for the oxygen tank. Mom was lifting the oxygen tank into the stroller but had to unlock the stroller to move it a little to fit the oxygen tank underneath. The entire stroller flipped over on it's side onto the pavement with James and the ventilator attached!!! Mom screamed, Dad came running out from the car to lift the stroller back up. A ton of people stopped to help us, we both had a heart attack. James was fine because he was strapped in his car seat and never touched the ground. But obviously this (brand new) stroller isn't meant for all this weight. So now one of us always needs to be holding the stroller just in case. When we walked into the appointment (late), we let them know what had happened. Super stressful! Now the pediatrician is looking into getting us a medical stroller through insurance. The reason we didn't do this before is because we were told it would take 6 months to get and since we needed a stroller to get discharged we just got our own. It is actually highly popular for ventilator kiddos, but after today we are considering just getting the medical stroller which is meant to hold ventilators and oxygen tanks. We will see!

Right before our appointment James got his Clonidine, so he was pretty sedated and calm when we arrived to the appointment. We were able to use the wall oxygen at our pediatrician's office, which is helpful because you go through oxygen pretty quickly. Then the Doctor got to experience what we were seeing all night when he was awake which was just full out high respiratory rate and high heart rate. Nothing was able to calm him down except when Mom held him really close and patted him really hard. When he was sleeping though his respiratory rate and a heart rate were fine, because of this the Doctor was not as worried. However she did not feel comfortable letting us go home with him such high rates. We were afraid we were going to get admitted again. The Doctor ended up calling our Pulmonologist and he agreed to increase the PEEP back to 12 from 10. Overall the appointment took 2 hours and we are really impressed with how organized they are, especially with connecting with the other specialists. James has to make follow-up appointments with pulmonology, GI, ENT, orthopedic, endocrinology, genetics, PT, OT, and Speech Therapy. It is insane!

Check out our video below showing you our car setup with all of his equipment! James loves the car!

Oh yeah and the nurse called out again tonight. Still taking care of that emergency supposedly...Maybe she'll come tomorrow. Do we even want her now?

P.S. If you read the blog and are supporting James through his journey we would love you to participate in our video montage of everyone singing his lullaby. Please see the James Weston lullaby post for more details. ❤️

P.P.S. Thank you so much for the lullaby submissions so far! It's so exciting to have all of you be a part of something so special! 😭
