Day 313 - PEEP Decreased to 10!!! (weaning vent settings)

Monday, November 8th, 2021

James had his monthly pulmonologist appointment to receive his synagis shots (to protect against RSV). During the appointment we had a few things happen!

  1. Getting his nebulizer treatment prescriptions switched over to the pulmonologist's office
  2. Our Pulmonologist reached out to our NICU Speech Therapist regarding getting a swallow study. So we ended up getting a referral for a PO evaluation. This is the first step before a swallow study.
  3. After discussing James' stability and the fact that he is only on . 5% liters of oxygen, the pulmonologist agreed to try him on a PEEP of 10. It was originally at 12. Good thing Mom and Dad pushed for this! Next step would be to wean the pressure support.
  4. We also received a script to get a blood test done to check James for allergies.
  5. James received two synagis shots and his thighs. He absolutely hates the shots and cries so bad!
  6. Lastly they checked his end tidal CO2, which looked good!
It was a very long appointment. We started packing up appointment around 12:15pm and we got home at 3:00pm. We were literally only going there for the synagis shots. James took a very long nap after we got home.

Our car setup. Dad in front with our nurse. Ventilator next to Mom on seat, emergency bag hanging with pulse ox next to feeding pump. His Farrell bag is clipped on the hood of his car seat on the other side.

Floor setup. Oxygen tank and suction machine.
Getting tired before he gets the shots.
Check out my new bib!
For the first time James started reaching for his feet. We noticed he does this when he is getting tired.

P.S. If you read the blog and are supporting James through his journey we would love you to participate in our video montage of everyone singing his lullaby. Please see the James Weston lullaby post for more details. ❤️

P.P.S. Thank you so much for the lullaby submissions so far! It's so exciting to have all of you be a part of something so special! 😭
