Day 636 - James Gets a Trim ππ»ββοΈ & Equipment Failure β οΈ
Tuesday, September 27th, 2022
Can you spot how many outfit changes James had today? π π©³ His G-tube was leaking pretty bad.
Today we decided to give James a haircut which was more like a trim. We took him outside and had him sit on Mom's lap while Aunt Robin trimmed him up. At first he was fine but then tried to grab the scissors βοΈ and cried the rest of the time. We think it was just too much all at once because it happened so quickly.
During the time outside on the patio lanai we noticed that his pulse ox machine was not working. Of course, the one piece of equipment we did not bring a back-up of broke! This monitors his oxygen and heart rate. It showed an error "Replace Sensor". We did all the things...wiping the sensor with alcohol, changing the pulse ox probe, turning it on and off. We have a new RAD-G pulse oximeter and it is not our favorite. Since it was after hours and our DME would be closed we decided to text our sales rep for Masimo who we were connected with previously concerning our other pulse issue. He let us know that there are 2 DMEs in the Jacksonville area that he could reach out to in the morning. Until then we stopped his evening trial off the ventilator because not only do we not have a way to monitor his oxygen saturation but the hurricane had just touched down in Florida and we didn't need to put ourselves in a more risky situation if something went wrong.
πThe winds have picked up and it is howling outside, no rain yet but the Cat 4 hurricane just touched down in SW Florida. We had to board up the fire place since the high winds was blowing ash down from the chimney into the living room. We also took down anything breakable like pots and plants and them on the ground that were on stands or shelves. There are two giant ponds right outside of the house that typically flood and connect into a moat around the house. The neighbor was on top of it and had already lowered the water levels. Tomorrow we would venture out to get James' pulse ox replaced before the hurricane would arrive.
