Day 643 - Oxygen Requirements ⚠️ & No Sleep for Mom & Dad 😳

Tuesday, October 4th, 2022

So last night was pretty bad! 😩 Three of us were in a king sized bed but we also needed to keep a pillow on the other side of James so he didn't roll off making it feel like four people in the bed. James' pulse ox alarmed all night. He wasn't even on oxygen all day but then as soon as he got into a deep sleep, and he wasn't even moving his O2 would drop. Mom and Dad were up all night trying everything... 🥱 suctioning, replacing the pulse ox, repositioning the trach, making sure there wasn't any water in the circuit, but nothing was working Mom turned on the oxygen tank . It just didn't make sense why all of a sudden he would need it but be fine during the day. James was sleeping soundly while our hotel neighbors were probably like 🤬 because of the peeping! For this very short hotel stay we only brought two oxygen tanks versus the huge oxygen concentrator. The first tank we started with was only about 80% full. Mom started on 1/16, increased to 1/8, and then eventually ended up at 1/4. We weren't sure how long it would last at .25 liters. ⏳

Dad had calls in the morning so he worked down in the business center while Mom packed up equipment and supplies. Today was James' last day of his Cipro and it seems like it didn't really work. James found the remote and was back at it changing the channels! 📺 We had to check-out at 11am and it was crazy timing because as soon as we pulled in the drive like the AC repairman had just arrived as well. He stayed in the car for as long as possible since he said it would take about an hour and a half to get everything fixed. Dad had another business call so he had to get set up inside the house that felt like a sauna. 🥵 It took a few hours for the air to cool down.

In the evening James had tastes of sweet potatoes for the first time ever had Gerber Teething Wafers. It is like a hard cracker that melts in your mouth like cotton candy. James was absolutely not a fan of the hard crunchy texture and acted like he was gagging. So we let him play with small pieces so he could get used to the different texture. When Mom was done with his nightly trach care James straight up and signed for more toys. 🤟 These are his two favorite words! You may be thinking that his word for "toy" looks more like "time out" and you would be correct. The sign for toy is actually pretty difficult so we created our own and this is what we agreed upon. 😂 So Mom gave James a basket of balls and he was ecstatic! 🔴🟠🟢🔵🟡

P.S. You can email James your love and support as often as you’d like. Mom and Dad read these email to James as they come in. We all love them! JamesWestonAbramowitz@gmail.com
