Day 672 - Getting the Runaround from GI 📞😡

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022

Dad started off the morning calling the GI office of the doctor who was on-call last night. This was the doctor who spoke to the ER doctor, the doctor who told us to call his office in the morning so we could schedule with GI. Well it turns out they decided they couldn't help us and just told us to contact our GI doctor, even though it was the same group. So Dad called our GI office but it doctor wasn't in and there was no nurse practitioner or any other doctor that would help us. Dad contacted the other office again letting them know for situation and they couldn't have been more condescending or rude. So after all of this Mom did the same thing calling both offices, asking for an explanation of why the on-call doctor said he would help us and now they cannot. She also was greeted with horrible customer service getting called "Hun" by the office manager. After all of the back and forth finally we were told that our GI office had the order for IR. So Mom called them back one more time to make sure that was correct. And that office manager replied with, "yeah". That's it. So then Mom had to wait for a call from IR.

A few hours later we received the call from IR letting us know they receive the order but that they would need to call us back to schedule. At this point it is the late afternoon and IR finally calls back to schedule. They said they could not schedule us for a week!! They were not considering us an emergency because we were not outpatient. Mom asked if we would be seeing sooner if we were in the ER and he replied absolutely. I let him know that we were in the ER last night but we were discharged. It was absolutely ridiculous because we should have never been discharged. At this point mom had had it with the ER, the IR, and the GI offices on Tampa. She made a call to Wolfson's Children's IR in Jacksonville, because they had given us the direct line. They immediately let us know that they could get us in within 45 minutes! Unfortunately we were 4 hours away, so we instead scheduled for 1pm tomorrow. The only thing is that they weren't sure if they had the right size button so they told us to call tomorrow at 8am to confirm. We took the chance.

That night we headed to Jacksonville leaving pretty late and not arriving until 2am. 🚗 🛣️

You may be thinking, 🤔 why didn't we just go back to the ER in Tampa? After what we had already experienced we couldn't trust that we would be helped. There was a very high chance that we would be discharged and be told to deal with it outpatient again.

Dad made a live video on Facebook ranting about this experience. Dad's FB Rant At some point we will post the actual video, but for now that link will send you to his Facebook.
