Day 732 - Technically Same Day Admission & Discharge 🏨👨🏻‍⚕️👩🏼‍⚕️👩🏾‍⚕️👨🏿‍⚕️

Sunday, January 1st, 2023

We got to the hospital around 1:20am. At this point, we only continued water in his G-tube at a rate of 40ml/hr to help with dehydration. The Children's ER was completely empty. All of the medical staff was super friendly being that they were working on the weekend and on New Year's. We got into a room immediately. James was weighed and Mom went over all of the medical history. He had to get an IV for admission. It was great that she got it on the first try but we weren't sure it was going to work because it took a very long time. James cried and had to be held down by Mom, Dad, and another nurse. She put the IV in his hand so she needed to tie restraint boards to his arms to prevent him from pulling it out. We were told we would get admitted into the PICU soon but it ended up taking until 5am. Mom and James tried to sleep on the ER bed while it was very cold. While Dad was busy getting work done because he had eaten an energy bar that just kicked in.

When we arrived in the PICU and it was the nicest hospital room we had ever seen. To give you an idea the bathroom was nicer than an Embassy Suites. Everything was so clean and the room was huge. There was even a pullout couch that turned into a full size bed which Dad slept on. There is no doubt that if you had a child who would require multiple hospital stays that you would move to be near this hospital. Mom met with 2 different doctors and nurses throughout the night. No one could guarantee that IR would be able to help us on a Sunday, especially a holiday. The RT tried to connect his dual limb circuit from the LTV to the hospital humidification chamber but didn't have a clue. Mom showed her how and because she was open to learning it was a nice change. Normally, we would be told that we couldn't do any of his care and that it was their job. Typically an argument.

Around 9am a nurse came in to let Mom know that the IR said they could do the procedure today and that it would happen soon. Mom starting packing up his equipment and took James off the ventilator. We went down around 9:40am and since our nurse was pregnant both Mom and Dad could come in the surgery room with James. He did cry because was aware of what was going to happen. The only thing that calmed him down was watching a video of himself dancing to Dad playing guitar from his YouTube channel. They were super nice and efficient and it was very nice of them to allow us to play YouTube during the procedure. Afterwards we asked their opinion on GI Doctors and they recommended any of the GI Doctors at Nemours. We were discharged around 11am.

Once we got home James played with his new Legos with Juju. He also tried on his suit that he would wear on the cruise. It was a suit from one of Juju's former puppets. We packed up our stuff and heading home to Tampa in the evening. We would have 2-3 appointments everyday this upcoming week before leaving for the Disney cruise.

P.S. You can email James your love and support as often as you’d like. Mom and Dad read these email to James as they come in. We all love them! JamesWestonAbramowitz@gmail.com
