Day 735 - Big Boy Haircut, 1st Time at UPS & Publix, Sleep Study Scheduled!!!

Wednesday, January 4th, 2023

Today we were supposed to have Early Intervention therapy but the therapist mixed up the dates we would be out of town. She offered to come later that day but then James immediately went down for a nap so we rescheduled for Friday. Mom should be packed by then, right? 😵‍💫

In the morning, James had a good time pretend playing using his firefighter to play on the guitar. There is a cute video below. In the afternoon, the hospital called to schedule James for his sleep study on February 8th!!! It's the next step towards decannulation! We are so fired up!🥲😁🥲😁🥲

Mom and James ran some errands. We needed to stop by the UPS store for some Amazon returns. Mom scheduled a big boy haircut at a kids salon where they can sit in cars and watch TV so they are distracted. We didn't get any pictures of James actually getting his haircut because Mom was holding him the entire time while he watched Blippi on TV. He was very good even though the stylist constantly covered him in hair clippings. Literally at one point she trimmed the top of his head and dropped it on his face. Not ideal for a medically complex child who already has a hard time breathing. All she said was, "He's going to have some hair for dinner". 😒 We will definitely be seeing someone else next time. It was a little short in the front and we are really hoping that his curls will grow back.

While we were out we stopped by Publix because it was right next door in the shopping center. We needed to get some groceries for the next two days before we left for the cruise. This was James' first time in a grocery store because we have been using Instacart since he was born. A couple of photos show how Mom did the setup with hooking a basket to a mommy clip on the stroller and then using the mommy clip to carry all of the bags when we were done shopping. It's not super easy getting James in and out of the car with his feeding pump, Farrel bag, and sometimes pulse oximeter. But it is a lot better without the ventilator and oxygen tank! The only thing that makes it kind of difficult is when it's raining. 🌧️ So because it's Florida we just waited for a few minutes underneath a covering until it stopped. We got home just in time for trach care and a bath. Time to get all that hair off of him and his equipment!

P.S. You can email James your love and support as often as you’d like. Mom and Dad read these email to James as they come in. We all love them! JamesWestonAbramowitz@gmail.com
