Day 163 - 138 Days later...

Image
Friday, June 11th, 2021 Only changes: Temporarily held  off on robinol due to thick secretions not coming up. Increased Auto control mode to 2x a day (1 hour on day and night shift) Another new nurse last night and kinda again this morning. Basically the last 3 nurses we've had never had were new to James. Today our nurse had James once on January 24th. Why do we remember? Because it was the last Bucs game before the Super Bowl. Everyone working that day was focused on it and it wasn't the greatest experience. Below is a picture so you can see what he looked like comparatively. He was so tiny! Do you think there have been some changes? Just a few things! 😂 It's hard when they don't know your baby and needing to explain everything over and over. Report doesn't give enough information.  Overall the day wasn't great. Just one of those days where Mom felt like she could do this at home, because she did everything on her own. She never felt comfortable leaving the r...

Day 162 - Auto Mode Success!

Image
Thursday, June 10th, 2021 James had kind of a rough night. Could not be consoled for a while and then a massive diaper at 8:30pm, followed by a 2:00am, 5:30am, and 7:30am events. He just seemed really irritated with his hernia for most of the night. Today around 11:30am he had a huge burp, so Mom is now charting these to see if there is a correlation with the formula versus breastmilk. James is having a 6 month birthday party 🥳🎈 at the end of the month in RM 2120. Hopefully we are still in the NICU so he can celebrate with all of his favorite RNs & RTs. We will be serving prune juice! Make sure you're on the schedule for Thursday, July 1st so you can stop by! 🎉🧁 Changes/Updates: Weigh-in: 5685 grams (12lb 8oz) - gaining 71 grams a day over the past 3 days. Maybe that's too much too fast!? New nurse today that has never had James before, but she seemed very knowledgeable and we would be happy to have her in the neighborhood! Doctor change again.  Mom mentioned to the Doc...

Day 161 - Hands in the mouth! ✅

Image
Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 James took selfies with Mom in the morning, had a relaxing bath, and got a trach change by his parents! He did Auto Control Mode for an hour for the 3rd time with no help on the Rate from the vent! He is doing great! James had speech therapy today and we tried putting water on his hand for him to bring to his mouth. He has been very interested in bringing his hands to his mouth. See photos below. James has been rather tired all day, even taking naps sitting up. He may be having a growth spurt. Blonde Hair & Blue Eyes P.S. You can email James your love and support as often as you’d like. Mom and Dad read these emails to James as they come in. We all love them! JamesWestonAbramowitz@gmail.com

Day 160 - 3 Fractured Ribs!

Image
Tuesday, June 8th, 2021 Changes/Updates: James is getting a full x-ray since yesterday's showed us some new findings. We want to make sure we weren't missing anything else. CLINICAL INDICATION: Recent screening for rickets at left wrist suggesting presence of healing fracture distal radius, now for a more inconclusive survey to evaluate for the possibility of other fractures. FINDINGS: There is callus associated with healing posterior right rib fractures, seventh, eighth, and ninth. There is a tiny bony projection from the medial proximal right tibia which is nonspecific, not necessarily of fracture. There is some mature formed periosteal reaction involving the femoral shafts likely the residua of a prior periostitis and possibly a normal physiological phenomenon. Periosteal reactions which had been  present  at the humeri on the prior study are now less conspicuous. IMPRESSION:  *IN ADDITION TO THE HEALING/HEALED FRACTURE OF THE DISTAL LEFT RADIAL METAPHYSIS, ...

Day 159 - Juju is back & Wrist Xray

Monday, June 7th, 2021 Juju came for a last visit before heading back to Jax with Aunt Robin and the dogs. Dad came back from his boys trip in Orlando. Monday mornings are always busy with scans, labs, and measurements. Changes/Updates: Measurements: Weigh-in: 5470 grams (12lbs!) Head Circumference: 38 cm Length: 49.53 cm Mom charted these on a grow chart for preterm boys born at 26 weeks. Blood Gas:  CO2 69.7 Wrist Xray: He has a healing fracture on his left wrist?! FINDINGS: 2 views of left wrist with particular attention to the distal left radial and ulnar metaphyses. Overall density of bones normal. Provisional zone of calcification is identifiable at both radius and ulna. There is deformity in the distal left radial metaphysis with angulation and some cortical thickening, suggesting a healing or healed fracture. Feeds: Increased to 120ml Vent Settings change:  James tried Auto Control mode today! This means that James was responsible for taking his own breaths. He still ...
