Day 313 - PEEP Decreased to 10!!! (weaning vent settings)

Image
Monday, November 8th, 2021 James had his monthly pulmonologist appointment to receive his synagis shots (to protect against RSV). During the appointment we had a few things happen! Getting his nebulizer treatment prescriptions switched over to the pulmonologist's office Our Pulmonologist reached out to our NICU Speech Therapist regarding getting a swallow study. So we ended up getting a referral for a PO evaluation. This is the first step before a swallow study. After discussing James' stability and the fact that he is only on . 5% liters of oxygen, the pulmonologist agreed to try him on a PEEP of 10. It was originally at 12. Good thing Mom and Dad pushed for this! Next step would be to wean the pressure support. We also received a script to get a blood test done to check James for allergies. James received two synagis shots and his thighs. He absolutely hates the shots and cries so bad! Lastly they checked his end tidal CO2, which looked good! It was a very long appointment. W...

Day 312 - Lazy Sunday

Image
Sunday, November 7th, 2021 No nurse, she is still off this week. Dad started off the morning watching The Neverending Story with James. Dad was not a fan. 😂 But this was Mom's childhood. James can't wait for Tommy to come home so he can practice flying.  Mom also made her first slow cooker recipe, Butternut Squash Soup. We think the slow cooker will be super helpful in trying to cook dinner while being a full time ICU nurse. If anyone has any slow cooker/crock pot recipes they'd like to share, please send them to jameswestonabramowitz@gmail.com. Ideally low carb, but we'll see how long that lasts... Tomorrow is James' Pulmonology appointment to get another 2 synagis shots. 💉 We are also going to ask about going down on his PEEP. 🤞 The boys are napping. 💤 Baby feet! He is getting tired. James wearing matching sweatpants with Daddy. Mom's view from her bed. Ventilator Oxygen and heart rate. P.S. If you read the blog and aresupporting James through his journey...

Day 311 - Tummy Time with Mom and Dad

Image
Saturday, November 6th, 2021 No nurse Saturday. James did tummy time on the floor with Mom and Dad. We worked him into a nap. We tried using our arms instead of the boppy and it made James feel safer. He is doing so well! P.S. If you read the blog and are supporting James through his journey we would love you to participate in our video montage of everyone singing his lullaby. Please see the James Weston lullaby post for more details. ❤️ P.P.S. Thank you so much for the lullaby submissions so far! It's so exciting to have all of you be a part of something so special! 😭

Day 310 - Tummy Time with Mommy

Image
Friday, November 5th, 2021 Nurse rant Our nurse left early today to celebrate her daughter's birthday. James spent some time in his bouncer after Dad explained to the nurse that we would like her to work with him. Yes, it's kinda ridiculous that a male needs to be the one they listen to. Mom can stress all day long but as soon as Dad requests something from them, it's done. What's funny is that Mom is the one making decisions to let people go, I guess they haven't figured that one out yet. So the nurse said that Physical Therapy is not her specialty, and that she is a nurse. We get it, you went to school to become a nurse. But hey you're currently in Home Health, this isn't a high stress fast paced Hospital and we would like there to be a point to have nursing. One mentioned that if this assignment ends up being more like "nannying" she will quit. Again, this is Home Health, go work in a hospital. They say that they are here for his safety, but hon...
